How to Calculate Tip

When dining out or using services, it's customary to leave a tip based on the quality of service. The standard tip range is typically 15-20% of the bill amount before tax.

Tip Calculation Formula

The tip amount is calculated as:

Tip = Bill Amount × (Tip Percentage ÷ 100)
Total = Bill Amount + Tip

Common Tip Percentages

  • 10%: Basic service or when service is included
  • 15%: Good service (most common)
  • 18-20%: Excellent service
  • 25%: Outstanding service

Example

For a $50 bill with 15% tip:

Tip = $50 × (15 ÷ 100) = $7.50
